Watch Ugriznimo znanost TV Show entitled Chemicals from the Environment in Our Bodies – Human Biomonitoring, today, January 4, 2024, at 5:15 PM on TV SLO1!

“Ugriznimo znanost”, a TV show from the Slovenian National Broadcaster that strives to explain science in a popular, relaxed, and witty way, hosted our colleagues dr. David Kocman and dr. Rok Novak, who presented the work done at the O2 department on the topic of Citizen Science. 

At the ARIS session titled "The Position of Citizen Science and Its Placement within the Framework of Funding Scientific Research Activities," Dr. David Kocman elucidated his perspective on citizen science and the evolution of work on citizen science projects over the years.

This is the first time that an ICP-QQQ-MS (Agilent 8900 triple quadrupole mass spectrometer) method met the accuracy and precision criteria for a proficiency test in the quantification of ⁹⁰Sr and ²²⁶Ra at an environmental level. 

As part of the EU MSCA ITN GMOS-Train project, coordinated by Prof. Milena Horvat from the Department of Environmental Sciences, an interesting study has been published, available in Nature Geosciences.

Environmental Science and Pollution Research (ESPR) journal, with EiC Prof. Philippe Garriegue from the University of Bordeaux, France, and where Prof. Dr. Ester Heath served as an editor since 2009, has achieved Q1 status with an Impact Factor of 5.8. 

Dr. Raghuraj Singh Chouhan and Dr. Marko Štrok from the Department of Environmental Sciences of the “Josef Stefan Institute” in collaboration with Dr. Ivan Jerman from the National Institute of Chemistry and colleagues from abroad published an article entitled Recent advancements in the development of Two-Dimensional nanostructured-based anode materials for stable power density in microbial fuel cells which was published in Renewable and Sustainable Energy Reviews.

Scientific Research Council for the Natural Sciences selected our achievement entitled "Non-targeted analysis identified 74 biomarkers of exposure in the urine of Slovenian children" by Dr Žiga Tkalec and the colleagues from the Department of Environmental Sciences as Excellent in Science 2023. 

At the MSCA Coordinators Info Day in Brussels, three remarkable MSCA ITN projects, including FoodTraNet, generously shared their insights and success stories on fostering collaborations with other projects and initiatives.

The Department of Environmental Sciences (IJS-O2) attended the fifth meeting of the parties to the Minamata Convention (COP5), held between October 29 and November 3 in Geneva. During the meeting, we organized a "Knowledge Lab" titled "Connecting Science, Policy, and the Minamata Convention through Postgraduate Education".

The SmartMOVE project addresses the management of sustainable mobility in high-traffic locations in Ljubljana, which represents the most congested transportation hub in the country.

Jožef Stefan Institue's team, comprised of Prof. Dr. Milena Horvat, Dr. Igor Živkovic, and Sreekanth Vijayakumaran Nair (GMOS-Train ESR 2), recently attended a three-day workshop in Nevada organized by the University of Nevada, Reno, in the United States.
