Ljubljana, January 31, 2025 – The MultiPart project, a major three-year research initiative co-funded by ARIS, was officially launched on January 31 with its inaugural meeting. Led by the Jožef Stefan Institute (JSI), the project brings together scientists, local communities, industry, and policymakers to address environmental and health challenges in the Lower Soča Valley, particularly in the vicinity of Salonit Anhovo.

On January 28, 2025, a discussion on the importance of innovation in space technologies took place at the Central Library of Celje, accompanying the opening of the exhibition "Can Technology Save the World?" The event was organized by the Embassy of Switzerland in Slovenia, the company Lek, a member of the Sandoz Group, and the Jožef Stefan Institute.

Rok Novak appeared on Meta PHoDcast, hosted by dr. Zarja Muršič, to discuss measuring environmental stressors with accessible devices and involving citizen scientists in research. He also highlighted the URBANOME project, which is currently recruiting cyclists in Ljubljana to monitor urban environments.

The recent review article "Advances in Copper Speciation, Isotopic Ratio Measurement, Bioimaging, and Single-Cell Analysis" was published in the renowned journal Trends in Analytical Chemistry. The article by Katarina Kozlica, Radmila Milačič Ščančar, Martina Reberšek, Maja Čemažar, Katja Uršič Valentinuzzi, and Janez Ščančar explores ground-breaking analytical methodologies for understanding the vital role of copper in human health and disease.

On Tuesday, November 26, the Jožef Stefan Institute (IJS) organized a roundtable discussion at Expano in Murska Sobota, focusing on the development of Slovenian agriculture, sustainability, and local food production.

From 9 to 11 October 2024, mercury scientists convened in Portorož, Slovenia, for a collaborative workshop aimed at advancing the understanding of how mercury emissions and releases influence environmental mercury levels. This event brought together two key scientific initiatives: the Global Mercury Observation Training Network (GMOS-Train) and the Multi-Compartment Mercury Modelling and Analysis Project (MCHgMAP).

The MCHgMAP coordination meeting will be held from October 9-11, 2024, in Portorož, Slovenia, organized by the Meteorological Synthesizing Centre – East (MSC-E), in collaboration with the Jožef Stefan Institute and the EU GMOS-Train project.

On October 1, 2024, the three-year InPlasTwin project, funded by the EU HORIZON programme, was officially launched. Led by Assist. prof. dr. Janja Vidmar, this twinning initiative aims to enhance the research capacity of the Jožef Stefan Institute (JSI) and the Agricultural University of Athens (AUA, Greece) in micro- and nanoplastics (MNPs) analysis within environmental and food systems.

The promotional cycling event, organized on 3 September 2024, by the International Postgraduate School as the final celebration of its 20th anniversary, saw participation from students, faculty, and staff. 

The article explores the impact of urban environmental stressors, such as air pollution, noise, and high temperatures, on cyclists in Ljubljana. Amidst the climate crisis and rising urban traffic, cycling is gaining popularity worldwide as an eco-friendly alternative.
