Physical distancing / 29.04.2020

In a time when we are locked inside our homes we need social contacts more than ever. We have to keep in touch with our family, friends and coworkers.

We have become accustomed to use the term “social distancing” (“socialno distanciranje”) to describe the measures taken to prevent contact between people and in turn decrease the chance of virus transmission. Some institutions (including the WHO – MK at 00:19:31) have switched to the term “physical distancing” (“fizično distanciranje”) to more accurately describe what we should be practicing (see Stanford University, Aljazeera and CNN). In a time when we are locked inside our homes we need social contacts more than ever. We have to keep in touch with our family, friends and coworkers, we have to chat, cooperate, text, and whatever else we can think of to keep the SOCIAL distance between us as small as possible – for our mental health and for the people we communicate with. On the other hand, physical distancing will be the norm for the foreseeable future and we must follow the guidelines set up by health authorities.
