O2 has new research infrastructure / 12.12.2022
The Department of Environmental Sciences has acquired new infrastructural equipment that will enable detailed analysis of harmful substances in the environment, food, and biological samples.
The new Orbitrap ExplorisTM 240 mass spectrometer, which enables extremely accurate determination of the mass of molecules and their constituent parts, will remove another veil in the identification of pollutants in our environment, and will also contribute to monitoring human exposure and the search for harmful compounds in food and nutritional supplements, and especially improved understanding of the potentially harmful effects of hazardous chemicals that surround us in our daily lives. The acquisition of a new mass spectrometer means significant progress in the chemical analysis of organic compounds and will enable better integration in the wider research area in Slovenia and especially in the EU.
