New Review Article on Mercury Isotopes Published in Top-Ranked Journal / 17.04.2025

We are proud to share that the review article “Mercury isotopes in the atmosphere: Synthesis, perspectives, and analytical considerations”, authored by our colleagues Jan Gačnik, Igor Živković, and Milena Horvat, has been published in Trends in Analytical Chemistry (TrAC)—the highest-ranked journal in the field of analytical chemistry.

 

The article explores how stable mercury isotopes can be used to trace atmospheric Hg sources, differentiate between natural and anthropogenic emissions, and understand key atmospheric transformation processes. It also discusses the main analytical challenges and offers solutions to improve the reliability of isotope data.

An up-to-date dataset of atmospheric Hg isotopes has been compiled and made freely available, along with the associated code and the open-access publication:
