ISO-FOOD Spring School on Food Authentication by Isotope and Elemental Fingerprinting, 4-7 April 2017 / 14.04.2017
The spring school was organized for national stakeholders to get acquainted with the potential of isotope and elemental analyses for determination of authenticity, geographical origin and production practice (conventional vs. organic) of foods of plant and animal origin.
Guest lecturers from the Administration of the Republic of Slovenia for Food Safety, Veterinary Sector and Plant Protection and Institute for Oliveculture, as well as IJS lecturers from Departments of Environmental Sciences, Low Energy Physics and Computer Systems explained the basics of stable isotope fractionation, isotope analysis and elemental analysis using up-to-date analytical techniques. A special session was dedicated to the data evaluation using multivariate statistical methods. In the afternoon laboratory practices, the attendees got hands-on experience on stable isotope analysis of water and honey.
