Dr Anja Stajnko and her colleagues received the Excellent in Science 2022 award / 7.12.2022
In the field of interdisciplinary sciences, the recognition went to the article "Assessment of susceptibility to phthalate and DINCH exposure through CYP and UGT single nucleotide polymorphisms" by dr. Anja Stajnko and her colleagues from the Department of Environmental Sciences.
This year, the Public Research Agency of the Republic of Slovenia (ARRS) organized the national event ARRS Day: We support excellence. As part of the project, 52 of the most prominent research achievements of the past year were selected, of which 21 got the opportunity for public presentation at the event. This time, the recognition in the field of interdisciplinary sciences went to Anja Stajnko and her colleagues from the Department of Environmental Sciences, for the article "Assessment of susceptibility to phthalate and DINCH exposure through CYP and UGT single nucleotide polymorphisms", which was published in the journal Environment International. The article summarizes the results of research on the influence of genetic variations in the human genome on the metabolism of phthalates. This is the first study in humans of its kind to identify gene polymorphisms as biomarkers of susceptibility to phthalate exposure. The results of the research can, thereby, improve the kinetic-dynamic models for phthalates and, thus, enable more realistic risk assessment and protect the more sensitive part of the population.
